Beware of MS Store Automatic Updates Too. I just realized "Gaming Services" was updated yet again today after I signed out. I can almost guarantee the game will not run if I attempt to launch it....the little white bar of death is below the start tile...Not in the mood to go through this again (I did this 2 days ago)
Can Ya'll Fix this please? GM's can see all these posts, Developers talk to GM's and Microsoft...Let's go people!
P.S. I am afraid to open the game at this point...
Common Meow....It's not solely one's fault or the other. SEGA Develops some software and Microsoft Distributes it...Both are to blame. Downloading another 100k files...I just can't give up
I just Deleted 800 THOUSAND Files in the Mutable Backup folder Manually. This is over 200Gigs of Storage Space. Doesn't either company see a problem with this? I personally don't give a shit if you do not respond to my thread..Just FIX IT
EDIT*** 1.4 MILLION FILES.....wow.....
EDIT 2*** 2.6 MILLION FILES?! Common now...That does not even make sense...Literally going to brick my personally built custom gaming machine. I don't even have that much storage space on my SSD...That is how messed up the client is...
As I have previously mentioned, I am not a developer or programmer. I am simply a slightly informed user that knows just enough to typically get around any general issue regarding computing, gaming, etc. But, the MS Store's access to the game files and habit of Changing game permissions (Which inadvertently corrupts files, MS Store sees "corrupt" files, takes over everything and nukes itself) Needs to be Fixed immediately.
I truly love this game and the JP Version too. I love it enough to continue screwing with it (I am also a premium user, so I am a paying client like many others here) but it is getting old.
Every single time I update windows, the Microsoft Store (TrustedInstaller) goes into action and completely ruins the PS02_bin folder permissions, ownership, etc. As a result, the game does not launch and I spend roughly an hour or so adjusting files, permissions, downloading, etc. Please for the love of all things just FIX IT. One can either be ignorant or stupid. I refuse to believe that both companies are ignoring the issue, and I also believe that since you want more paying clients (what company would not) like myself that the unresolved issues are not a result of stupidity either.
The information is available to you, multiple sources of reports / complaints (twitter, MS store, PSO2 forum, etcc..) so please just fix the dang thing...
I love the game and I want to keep playing, but man is it a pain every time I have to go through this. I cannot even imagine how lost some users must be who do not have the same level of understanding that I do. Thank you.
EDIT*** I forgot to mention 200+ Gigs of storage back-up files are taking. Another major issue that needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY.
I too feel like it is safe to do so, but after spending so many hours troubleshooting I don't want to do something stupid!
Other than right at launch, PSO2 seems to be relatively stable unless an update throws it out of whack (which I seem to be able to fix with the small amount of understanding I have).
I do not want to break the game, but am I able to safely remove the extra copies of the game in the mutablebackups folder, without hindering stability? I hope that one day the launcher will do this for me, but at present time I am a little hesitant in-case windows needs to recover a file from one of the backups.
It is over 150g ssd space, so if I can safely remove the back-ups I will immediately!
So from what I have been able to figure out (and I am not a developer, just a slightly informed user with very minor background in programming) is that the MS Store has an active link to the file. It will try to "fix" what it thinks is corrupted if there is an update (which there is) and the only way to fix it is to conduct a hostile takeover of all file ownership that are related to pso2. Little luck involved too I would say, but until you can actively delegate full control to the right entities in file permissions the game just doesn't freakin' work. Plus, the MS store is always watching
I just launched the game. Throughout my personal troubleshooting i restarted a few times.
Maybe i will make a thread addressing this issue. I believe i fully understand underlying problems and how to address. I won't do that until you are in though!
click advanced and change. Then type in your pclogin into the box and click search. mine is my name "xxxpc " then click apply. after that, you can go back into security tab under file properties and adjust ownership (it won't let you at first because you do not own it, the windows store does )
@Breadstickings now comes the fun
MS Windows Store = "TrustedInstaller" The store has a nasty habit of taking control of the folder. The reason it will not open is because when the active user attempts to run the file, the system cannot locate the PSO2.exe (the actual game) becuase its not allowed to. But, we can fix it!
1 - change owner from trusted installer to your PC login 2 - Give full control access to System and RESTRICTED 3 - it might start up halfway through, but dont stop modifying permissions, it will work 4 - may have to do this for a couple other folders too if pso2_bin itself does not fix problem
