@starryeyedgiant said in did Braver did the job?:
@Flowen231 the crucial mechanic i meant is the fearless attitude counter, one of katana's only ways of quickly regaining pp outside of brave combat. as soon as it is activated in midair, you start to fall, and as soon as you hit the ground, it deactivates, resulting in a counter window of maybe 5-10 frames in some situations! fearless attitude is extremely difficult to precisely time: its long counter window, especially after a third-stage photon art, is supposed to make up for how long it takes to set up. the issue with using it in the air negates this advantage, so that the only way to reliably use it is on the ground.
i don't know about wand, but sword normal definitely moves you forward in midair as long as there is a viable target in front of you. it only moves you about a pace for each attack, but that's infinitely more than zero movement, especially taking into consideration its range. sword also has a fantastic gap-closer in twisting zapper, and isn't nearly as likely to drink all your pp as katana is, but that's beside the fact that a short-ranged, undifferentiated normal attack which doesn't move you forward in midair, and could have kept your combo going if it did, feels really bad to use. if katana had a slightly different third or fourth normal that moved you forward a tiny amount, let alone a huge one that's almost half of the normal string animation time like partisan, that'd be fine with me.
the issue of having to pick a specific subclass to solve a problem that is inherent to a main class' weapon is... something other people have discussed and come to various conclusions on, so i'll leave it at that.
that's not the only thing wrong with fearless attitude. even after the counter goes off and you manage to even graze the ground while the fearless attitude is about the hit, there's no hit. you just light up purple and it goes away.
and even if someone even tries to tell me not to counter in air, this was against veteran wauldon solo. trying to hit his weak spot on ground with either counter gets mixed results of precision/non-precision hits. and the lack of a 4th/5th step normal made me dislike katana normals.
i have few problems with bow with it being "okay". one is the lack of PA's (hell, i can say that to all the weapons), and the noticeable loss of bow charge taking less time on normals and PA's.
