@Kofi9867 said in LOLLLL Microsoft remove Pso2 from the store:
They removed for when they actually have a fix, that way people aren't downloading a busted client and they can replace it with a "hopefully" fixed version.
Well, if it's true that they've taken it down, that would probably mean they intend to have it fixed soon enough.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
The MutableBackup folder would normally have nothing in it, but the Windows Store does not recognize the files downloaded by SEGA's PSO2 launcher. It believes the files are then corrupt and shunts them off into the MutableBackups folder as backups.
From what I can tell, the folder in the Mutable folder is a shortcut, not actually taking up the space it says it does.
I actually recorded the state of all these folders upon my third fresh install so I could keep track of it. I installed it onto my D drive, so this is how it turned out:
D:\Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps - pso2_bin (68.6 GB, 93,538 Files, 7 Folders)
D:\WindowsApps - 1 100b oxyna folder (10.9 GB, 98 Files, 3 Folders)
D:\WindowsApps\Mutable - Empty
D:\WindowsApps\MutableBackup - Empty
C:\Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps - empty
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps - 1 100b oxyna folder (10.9 GB, 98 Files, 3 Folders)
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Mutable - 1 100b oxyna folder shortcut (68.6 GB, 93,538 Files, 7 Folders)
C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MutableBackup (Empty)
I need more details as to what this means, because I don't understand what a Tweaker is or what it does.
Does it stop the game from uninstalling itself? Does it stop the game from duplicating itself?
What does it do, where do I find it... I need details, man. I need 'em bad!
Well, the good news is that PSO2 is not on the Microsoft Store's front page anymore, so... someone has to have noticed.
@OddCrown Nope. I have Halo Wars 2 on the Microsoft store and it doesn't do this stuff. That's not to say the Microsoft Store is any good (it's terrible), but it seems to be extra terrible specifically for Phantasy Star Online 2.
Today, after hearing multiple users' similar problems with the game, I woke up and turned on my PC and did a double-check in the usual offending file paths to see if PSO2 had either uninstalled itself or duplicated itself.
(Those file paths being %\Program Files\WindowsApps\Mutable , %\Program Files\WindowsApps\MutableBackup, %\Program Files\ModifiableWindowsApps. AND some folder in WindowsApps marked "100B7A24.oxyna_1.0.7.0_x64__wyfsmff9ynw7j"
I needed to take ownership of the file permissions by using a 3rd party program. Anyone having this problem should consult this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/PSO2/comments/gsasu0/how_to_fully_remove_pso2_from_your_pc/
Note: Do not delete the entire WindowsApps folder on your C drive, as it contains numerous other files and folders for many other programs on your PC. Look for the "oxyna" subfolder, and the Mutable and MultableBackup subfolders and delete ONLY THEM. )
Unfortunately, I found it had duplicated the entirety of the game's files onto a drive I did not install it on. A full 70 gigabytes of data just appearing out of nowhere. I installed it onto the D drive which created these folders, and I found them on the C drive today for no reason.
When uninstalling it using Windows' Add or Remove Programs function, selecting "uninstall" did not remove any of these files, leaving 140 gigs of clogged up space on my PC. I repeat, if you uninstall normally, double-check to ensure these files are removed properly.
I love this game, but I can't be dealing with that. You can't expect users to constantly delete swaths of data that they need to wrestle system permissions out of Microsoft's hands to even get at. To expect your user base and customers to go through this much trouble just to play your game is not only unacceptable, but it's downright humiliating for everyone involved. Microsoft and SEGA should be ashamed of this, and if they've got even a shred of integrity, they need to fix this ASAP and be fully transparent about it.
I will not be playing this game otherwise, and I will actively be telling people not to pick it up until a definitive, sure-fire fix has been presented. Ideally, this fix would mean no Microsoft Store at all, but even if it just becomes manageable somehow, I will accept that.
Basically, until users at large report that things are all clear, PSO2 is dead to me, and not by choice. Were there anything I could do about it, I would.
@Andalla If you install the game again, yes.
It's a travesty, I know. A friend of mine has sworn off the game because it keeps doing that to him too.
@Andalla Unfortunately, that's going to happen every time you restart. It's a common problem among PC users right now and no one knows how to fix it.
Until the devs address it, I don't think there's any way to stop it.
