A single essay could never express my feelings for Phantasy Star as a whole, it has been a truly important piece of my life and the impact the original game had on me as a child has remained to this day, what was created back then is something the original team should be very proud of, as their work will never be forgotten.
My feelings for New Genesis are regrettably not quite comparable, a single essay would not be enough express my disappointment for New Genesis.
Like all of you, I too have the desire for this to be the best video game of the decade, I'll throw some thoughts into here and be on my way.
I believe the feedback regarding Casino Coins certainly pushed for a more appropriate method of obtaining them in-game.
Gigantix were changed as a direct result of player feedback, and these types of changes are made swiftly enough for me to say that they are indeed listening.
My last response from the Support Team can be seen below:
Whilst not explicitly stated, it does seem like the change was a direct result of this feedback which is a brilliant step forward, but transparency in regards to where these types of changes come from (player feedback, planned change etc) would go a very long way for earning player goodwill and trust.
If this did indeed push for the change (the timing was pretty spot-on) then just telling players "We heard how you feel about this, so here's what we've done to improve it.) in a human way is all it takes to ease everyone's concerns.
Due to the lack of transparency players aren't certain what direction the game is going in and feel like their loyalty to the game and community isn't being respected or appreciated, as a long-time Phantasy Star enthusiast myself, I certainly do feel like New Genesis is not the Phantasy Star I know, love or deserve, it's not the Phantasy Star anyone deserves.
I love Phantasy Star, you love Phantasy Star, the creators love Phantasy Star, we all love Phantasy Star and that's why everyone has been so vocal about their disappointment in New Genesis, because Phantasy Star means so much to everyone here and they all want to see it succeed, and become a household name like Final Fantasy, but until there is direct cooperation from the team in charge and the players, this will not happen.
You cannot create the next Final Fantasy XIV without taking a page from their book and directly interacting with the audience, both creators and players work together to create this final product, it cannot be done alone.
SEGA is certainly listening and making changes, but it's about time they start addressing the community directly, talking to fans, take time to answer questions, ease concerns and push out the best possible experience that everyone can say job well done to.
We're in this together, they can't make a game without us, we can't play a game and create lifelong friends without the game, and in turn provide them with a revenue because this is still a business at the end of the day, it has to be done together.
Cocoon's have so much potential if you just make repeatable dungeon style quests for players to indulge in, PSO2 has a terrible one-and-done problem where everything is played once and never again unless required for ARKS Missions, Client Orders and so forth, try telling anyone you play ARKS Quests like Za'Udan because you enjoy them and not for the Daily Mission with a straight face.
Even if you wanted to play Rideroid Quests (yes, RIDEroid, not Ridroid, that's an error) in PSO2 before NGS was announced you'd be hard pressed finding anyone to play them with, these aren't fun, but Divide Quests are (if the rewards were improved this would be great).
To ensure they're doing what's right for the game and the community, cooperation, community and transparency is required, more polls, votes, monthly suggestion boxes, there are numerous ways to gather feedback, upon quest completion provide a prompt for players to write feedback directly in-game, ask them about their experience with the quest, what they liked / disliked and what they'd like to see in the future.
Right now, Phantasy Star Crew's direction for the game is a complete mystery, and that my fellow ARKS is the biggest problem of all.
I'll be here for it all, gritting my teeth as I refuse to give up hope but I'd be lying if I said my Alliance members were happy, several have asked for removal from the Alliance because they no longer play the game and did not wish to take up a space which could otherwise go to another player, it's extremely upsetting but unless things change this will continue to happen.
All my Ryuker Devices & Cocoon's reset recently, collecting these again was a real blast, genuinely the best bug I've encountered so far.
Here's a humorous screenshot showing one of those weird spots across the map where the water's missing/
Could we get some more collectibles and be rewarded more for venturing into caves, maybe dot some NPC's around? This would give this lifeless world the life it so very much deserves.
SEGA's listening, they're reading this thread, how they act is based on your feedback, one line posts won't cut it, write an essay, that's the feedback they need, detailed, descriptive, emotional, my wallet's staying closed until this gets better.
