This is actually a really good idea. Endorsed.
I was motivated to publish this thread because I have reported a few players with inappropriate images a few weeks ago but still see those player's shops in my searches.
This isn't just for me, but for players who deal with individual and institutional(systemic) oppression daily. If you are not impacted by the problem presented below, then please consider the viewpoints of those who are. Let others who are less privileged than you have a voice.
Players can express themselves in PSO2 by using images called symbol arts in the symbol art designer. Players can create symbol arts using the in-game editor or an external tool available online such as MalluleyBovo's editor. In addition, they can download symbol arts that have been already made and uploaded to the internet. One way to utilize symbol arts is to sell items in their own personal shop i.e. player shop and advertise their shops with a symbol art and a text description.
This amount of freedom allows users to place anything they like as an advertisement.
This iteration is functional. However, this level of freedom allows bad actors to advertise their shops with hateful images with the intention of establishing current societal forms of oppression targeted towards marginalized groups. Images with historical backgrounds that are meant to demean and humiliate people based on the status of their social group in a white-dominated society. To help prevent the proliferation of such content and empower affected players, players should be able to report players with inappropriate shop images/descriptions with as little hassle as possible.
Note that this is specific to Steam!
Hide players with inappropriate shop advertisements by blacklisting them.
Report other nearby players for the following reasons:
Prevent symbol art from appearing in public and private conversations.
Add the ability to report other players in their shop.
Add the report reason "Inappropriate shop advertisement".
Player opens a player shop.
Player clicks on the report button next to the back button:
Player selects "Inappropriate Shop Advertisement" as the report reason in the subsequent report menu:
Player hits send.
I have to stress that bigotry still exists, comes in all forms, whether it's a meme, a sentence, a law or the intended absence of one, and it is a problem, whether or not you are affected by it. And one way to solve bigotry is to empower people who are oppressed by it. Reporting other players who spread hateful messages is only one way to accomplish that.
Please consider how your reply in this thread may impact others.
@Anarchy-Marine said in Give veteran players the ability to silence bots.:
@Thrashinuva There would be room for abuse of an option like that. There are already players in this game, that seem to have some very disturbing views on freedom of speech and expression. Say you had someone getting offended by an avatar, symbol art, or word choices in game. Instead of single use, manual blocking options like we have, you would have those who share the same views actively trying to get the person who offended them mass reported and auto blocked by everyone, the same way bots would be.
Yes, it would help stem the bot problem, but it would open up a Pandora's box of sorts, in regards to hate filled people, that want full control over the atmosphere of the game. People that think their games should be safe spaces, when it's an online experience, and is used by people from many walks of life, and that carry different values and beliefs. It would be like Twitter in game, as you would give the average user far too much control.
I think you unintentionally made a case in supporting this feature.
I'm down with squashing bigots.
I enjoy the sheer amount of customization that this game offers. This outfit cost me 20 million but it was worth the hassle.

And that's what we've been saying from the literal start. Get off your high horse pretending like they did it because you two decided to intervene. What is wrong with you?
Love when i'm proven right that so many here do nothing but complain and go berserk at everything Sega does.
just saying that people not only "complain and berserk" but actually want to help other users with their problems or troubles regarding the game...there are some people out there who literally just come in to mindlessly bash on sega then leave....but thats not always the case
The people i go after usually ARE the ones who just mindlessly bash everything or go wild for extremely stupid reasons like removing a fanservice cutscene involving minors, as if the Western world would've been alright with it.
Yup, the people you are referring to have made themselves vulnerable to accepting anti-Semitic rhetoric. They don't see how antagonizing "untouchable and powerful forces" ("SJWs", "Sony California", "American puritanical values", etc) have made them more likely to absorb more sinister stuff out there, whether they want to or not.
It's good that you are calling this behavior out by telling them, "Hey, this is not okay". Makes them ultra defensive for sure, but it at least gives them awareness of what they are saying and how others perceive their words.
@Archetype-Luna I don't know about that. The moderators don't appear to mind the youtube links floating around here. In addition, they are letting everyone talk and argue in this thread. That seems like the opposite of begetting more censorship.
The inclusion of SA's pinball minigames would be rad.
@RainGnyu said in Potential Reason for the Game's Censorship:
Toggle censorship system! Only solution and if you don’t agree to it then your agenda is to force your perspective on to others. If you think otherwise you are a hypocrite!
You can watch the removed cutscenes on youtube though.
It's one thing to criticize the removal of content you like. It's another to claim that the PSO2 NA team is forcing anything on people.
I agree with the last bit. I'm not a huge fan of outfits in general. Don't like them in Guild Wars 2, don't care for them in this game.
