@Qruis It's not an odd translation choice since it's the most accurate, just different from what the fan patch chose. That's sort of how I feel with games I grew up on with incorrect translations too though. "Aerith" will never sound as right to me as "Aeris" lol
If we directly translated Japanese each time, we'd have what is PSO2 global translation in all medias. Masquerade makes the most sense.
I'm a big fan of localization, but I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Both the fan patch and global translate things literally and with localization. Neither is a very direct translation.
I haven't played the fan patch or gone against the boss yet so I'm likely missing some context, but @Laep is right that "Masquerader" is a correct translation of "マスカレーダ". A "masquerade" is a masked ball or event, while a "masquerader" is someone attending a masquerade or wearing a mask in general. On the surface level, since we're talking about a boss, I assume we're talking about an individual and not an event.
I had a thought and I doubt it would have any impact whatsoever but I wanted your guy’s feedback.
Would removing the cm for the height slider make any difference? If you didn’t know how short that was, would it still give the same feelings of discomfort some people have?
If the height restrictions also applied to NPCs/aux, would that have any impact either?
I don't think it'd matter too much. It's a point for people to gripe on, but the characters would still be taller with or without a number.
The height restrictions are applied to auxiliaries as far as I know, but it's something that's consistently glossed over. The auxiliaries use the same character creator, but they're on a smaller scale. They're not actually shorter, they're scaled down. A good way of describing this is comparing yourself to a Barbie doll. She's not shorter than you, she's shrunken down to a different size where our 11.5" is her 5.8'.
@NotWhoUThink For sure. It also tends to create a loop where they don't make items or make bad items and use it to justify not making them at all. I hope we can at least get more with the updates for those asking.
I think it's perfectly reasonable to vent about the lack of CAST parts. Sure they might sell less or be in less demand, but it still sucks to be treated unfairly. I don't see why they can't let up on the cute girls a bit to give everyone something.
@Raif In that case, I'm sure the search feature would have served you well. But hindsight is 20/20.
The use of "political correctness" in the title makes that pretty obvious yes. But let's not pretend yourself and ApollosAmour don't have the opposite agenda. When neither of you answer basic questions or own up to being called out on baiting, you're not fooling anyone.
I feel like this viewpoint wouldn't exist if I weren't so active in these topics in the past. Because I've posted consistently with the same standpoint, I've likely become the face of the pro-localization side of things, meaning I receive most of the backlash. I've answered basic questions from all different angles, held people accountable from both sides, laid out things in pretty simple terms, etc. If people are still unwilling to believe I've ever done that, then what can I do? I'm not defending myself from revisionist angles of the argument anymore.
As far as baiting goes, I say tongue-in-cheek things to stir the pot sometimes. I don't see where I haven't owned up to that though, since people have called me out on it and I haven't denied it. The topic is too silly sometimes not to be silly myself, which I've said.
I just find the accusation so bizarre because the only criticisms thrown against me that I haven't been able to give a clear answer to are the deluded responses I've received that go into prophetic diatribes or conspiracy ramblings about major corporations and human suffering. Meanwhile, I can't even get anyone on the anti-localization side to understand why it's bad for them to not call out people who are clearly lolicon and why it hurts their argument without a "it's not my responsibility" type of response. Even after the evidence has been dropped, they'll still turn a blind eye and act like it's irrelevant and/or go into full defense mode and protect them.
The lengths people will go to see half-naked little girls calling them master never ceases to amaze me.
Going to be honest with you here, starting to lose the last bit of respect I had for you with this bait. Also if I named one of my male aux's Alfred, and he calls me handler, it kind of ruins that Batman reference I was making. That said, it would be nice if I could fully customize what my aux is saying entirely, based around each unique creation.
That's fine. It's not directed toward you, since I've never gotten the sense that you're a false actor or a creep or anything of that nature. I'm just fairly jaded toward the subject the more that I see the reality of what's going on. There's just a lot of gross weirdos that are attracted to games like this who will lie to get what they want.
I was playing on an alt and they they still call you master in that scene when you first go to your PQ, which was interesting to see. Tbh I talk to my aux fairly often and I still never notice the change. I wonder if it's because of the personality I've chosen for him (polite) or if I really just don't notice at all.
@Gamers-are-so-oppressed It's a small group of people that have been purged from the reddit and steam forums coming here to vent because it's the last place that allows discussion on it.
There's people that just don't like censorship or heavier handed localization and I get that. But they're not the ones keeping it alive. It's the ones that treat this subject as a lifestyle (if you know what I mean) that are doing that.
It sounds paranoid, but I have no doubt that OP is just another alt baiting like you said.
I agree with that but I also acknowledge that it’s a (very vocal) minority on my ship. A few bad eggs ruin the nest.
That's a good way of putting it. VERY vocal lol
