The Algol we known is also known as the Demon Star, sometimes also associated with the Gorgon Medusa. Medusa of course herself also referenced in Phantasy Star as a Boss.

But all I can really say for PSO2 without giving spoilers is that Episode 6 seems to be leading to something significant related to Algol. It's not confirmed but there the are some very interesting parallels going on.
