Can we not cut out anymore story scenes and stop it with censorship in general.

@ApollosAmour What is wrong with Blacklist, its been long used word. There is no reason to go back and change Blacklist to PSO2 Blocklist other than the translation teams own moral beliefs. Are my auxiliaries now my pets since they call me handler, instead of me being their master and them being an apprentice. Then to the censoring of nudity, the whole intent of censoring is the issue, I could care less if they were nude or not as long as its what it was originally. ANY censoring is not defendable.

@SternalVessel61 That's your opinion and you're free to have it.

@ApollosAmour said in Can we not cut out anymore story scenes and stop it with censorship in general.:

@Not-A-Bear Please, enlighten me on the translation. I assume you have the original Japanese script, as well as both the Arks-Layer and Global scripts available to explain how incorrect the translation is and you're not just blindly pitting one translation against another without any idea of what's contained in the source materials.

Well, he isn't wrong when he says that some of the translation is just blatantly wrong.

For example: https://imgur.com/DnGHGKs

This should say "Hero weapon bonus" instead of "Healing weapon bonus" when translated from the Japanese "ヒーローウェポンボーナス"

This is something that someone with even a rudimentary level of Japanese should be able to translate properly.

@ApollosAmour You're saying it's my opinion, but tell me this. Why does a game that is rated mature +17 need to be censored, isnt that the whole point of age rating it mature so it doesn't need to be censored.

Either to push an agenda or because they know parents SUCK at parenting and let kids play M-rated games (such as GTAV)

@Yin Thanks for the context. I think that's probably more of a typo or a brain fart than a translation error, similar to "Gods be". I'm guilty of making the same kinds of mistakes when I'm processing a lot of text at once. It's usually a sign that things were rushed when slip ups like that aren't corrected. Unlike the user I was quoting though, I don't blame the translators for that since time constraints are typically out of their control. But in the case of PSO2, these are the kinds of things that do end up being corrected eventually.

@SternalVessel61 That's not exactly how it works. Localizing the game and having it rated are two separate processes. They would have to determine what content is best suited for the target audience before it's rated.

His opinion is objectively right though, and yours is objectively wrong.

@Not-A-Bear So that's a no on the scripts then?

Game should go back to being T rated since there's nothing warranting an M rating anymore

@SternalVessel61 They're dumb to you, but that doesn't mean they're pointless or done without consideration. I personally don't mind them one way or the other, but I recognize how minor they are and won't be pulling my hair out over it anytime soon. I'm more concerned with addressing criticism from people ignorant on the subject.

Yeah, there are a lot of typos, but that's usually characteristic of a rushed translation. The nice part about the game being updated as often as it is though is that many of them are being corrected as they're discovered.

It seems like you are defending the game as much as possible by choosing to blindly ignore how strange this situation is.

Instead of adding flavour text, the devs went around to changing weapon names which is fine and dandy if it makes sense (Slave could have been changed to imprisoned instead of Raven), and changing a name that we all know from other games called Blacklist.

A term that has so far to my knowledge not caused an uproar before and should not have been changed to Blocklist.

While they both are the same thing, a minute change as this went live instead of fixing typo's, flavourtext and other bugs around the game.

This all points to a rather strange feeling since we still have not heard a single news about why these are happening, why are they doing it.

Even you must be curious at this point.

Or are you being paid to ignore everything?

@ApollosAmour The thing is, people dont play this game for it to be "localized", people play this game specificly because its a japanese game. Localizing now days is just a disguise for censoring.

He's either being paid, or he's knee-deep in the cult of feminism.

It's obvious that 'politics' has ruined part of the gaming industry. Games can no longer be allowed to live in a vacuum, doing whatever they want to do, and present whatever they want to present... unless it's the violence/gore genre. Companies... having all the power, are the ones to blame for having no standards & bending over for any social pressure, just like the ones not being listened to have no power... the ones that are being listened to or considered have no power as well, yet they're given all the power of arbitration free of charge of what's 'acceptable content' by these very same companies.

It is what it is. The companies are to blame at the end of the day... they choose to do the things they do based on their preconceived notions and complete misunderstanding of how sensitive the western audience really is... which leads to the knee-jerk reactions/changes... it is what it is.

Also there's obvious gaslighters coming to this thread to hurl insults, deviate the conversation and make it about specific users and their other-site activity & to just instigate like trolls... just ignore them. None of that stuff is relevant to end be all obvious answer and the point of this thread... what we are getting isn't 1:1 with the Japanese release, whether things are being censored or altogether we're missing things that should be there from the get-go (such as flavor text) or should have been released by now in line with the Current-of-the-Time Episode release update.

...and with this thread it will continue to be pinged/bumped up as they make more changes that people will report on. So it's properly being rezzed for those pointing it out as new things come out, even things like retroactive changes that are being inserted without there being actual content addition so people are aware of it... such as text changes.

@SleeprunnerInc Exactly, flavor text is a must for rpg game. Item, quest, map, npc, enemies, natives npc. Even old 16-bit rpg game have it. The game feel really cold, bland, feels like chewing raw bread.

Instead they changed so called "offensive" into something meaningless, not even related to the game world setting, creating mess all around it.

Time constraint is such a big lie by now.

At this point, I wish death to the global version by a thousand stink bugs.

I personally decided not to go to JP version, nor dedicate time nor money there, regardless if it's the superior version. Not the version I'm supposed to play, not the version I'm going to play. So the death of Global means I'll go to a different game. We also don't know if JP NG will be as smooth sailing for westerners as the arks layer translated PSO2. So just get ready for a plan B and don't put all your eggs in a single basket.

My relationship with Sega has always been the love and hate type ever since the 8 bit era. So I'll survive without Phantasy Star in my life if Global dies. And if I really want nothing to do with a game from a company, and said company has annoyed me enough, I don't care if their next game is the super master piece loved by everyone with all the features I myself would want on a game, I'd still not buy it.

Guess they are holding it up on M because of some EP5 strong language from a certain super grumpy NPC, and the continued existence of the almost naked outfits and almost soft core porn emotes.
