There's multiple posts debunking their statements and there's also a singular clause which is the Ashcroft VS Free speech coalition or whatever which states that since it's not explicit sexual activity and has artistic merit in the form of humor and commentary, the emotes and character creation are completely legal.

This has weight because according to the Obscenity ratings/laws/whatever, to deem something obscene it needs to have absolutely no artistic value, nor any other important value (like comedy) to be deemed as such. That's how we get super risque art in museums, and online, we get such things as the furry art community being completely legal despite what's being shown there threatening to turn insane the minds of any outsiders looking into it.

It's also the reason why Long Yoshi, or Longshi, hasn't been taken down from the Internet, despite having all the childhood ruining traits it has...

@ZorokiHanuke Not to mention, they need to do the prong test for it and depending on your state in the US, it would be going through statelaw, then Federal law and finally global laws now that it's a global release which means Finnish, German, Denmark, Greenland, Iceland etc laws would have an effect on the game aswell.

Thus the NA ACT law is out of commission completely on this topic aswell.

People tend to use the ashcroft etc examples on wikipedia but honestly, people do not get condemned for these things as often as people think.

To my understanding people being jailed for lolimanga etc is like... What? maybe 10 people a year or even less.

That's from what I've seen on news and googled around. (SOLELY based on lolimanga, not something else)

And even then half the time they had to be some really out of mind stuff.

So a game like PSO2 would never reach that level.

There is a bit of a difference between draw loli hentai and PSO2 when you apply the precedent set by this Supreme Court Ruling. PSO2 does not promote nor present itself as child pornography, while loli hentai does. There is a huge distinction between the two in this regard.

That's why I don't think it US law has any effect on the censorship. However, this does not mean that there are laws in one or more of the countries the global server provides service to that could be affect it. I would think that most of the countries wouldn't pose an issue, especially if games like Senran Kagura are available in those regions.

Laws, in simple man terms, are just standardized rulings created by humans to have something on paper for when something happens, and how to deal with it in the same way every time, to bring fairness (which is another human concept). They get edited (through amendments) if that fairness ceases to exist.

Morals and values, however, are more personal and community non standardized guidelines on how different cultures see certain things and how they behave. Both laws and morals/values can run parallel through some things. For example, both law and morals see the exploitation of human beings as bad. The law punishes through the penal/corrections system, while the moral side punishes through ostracizing and other ways to kick offenders out of their communities. But on other cases, law and morals can differ and even deviate on other things. Like how watching or participating in porn (between all adults regardless of their shape and how they look) is perfectly legal, but to many, it's morally wrong.

So I get when pro censors try to cite the law, but instead, they should simply be citing their own morals. And that stance may be stronger, simply because through that, I feel they have much more ground to stand on.

My biggest reason to not try JP server would be ping. I remember long ago, Dragon Nest NA (an action online game not too different from this) was region blocked to me, so I tried the EU version. Ping was horrible with things I attacked getting hit nearly half a second later, and that was by playing solo. I never tried to go with others knowing ping would only get worse.

And of note, Caribbean is somewhat closer to EU than many places in the US can be. But going almost all the way through the other side of the globe? I don't want to go through the hurdle of making an account and installing just to be slapped with 1 second long intervals or something worse. If I bend and eventually decide to go there, it'd be as a sort of guest with only one character at most and not buying anything, just to see how things look like from there.

Only if you play PVP will you face ping problems since most of the things in PSO2 are handled clientside.

I heard this claim before, but I have seen some lag issues that are pretty reminiscent of ping. As in mobs getting hit but not dying or getting damage right away. So far this happened to me only once for one full day of dailies. Not sure what that would be if it isn't ping.

I've seen that happen and I play with a group of friends all from differnet countries, most of us are affected at the same exact time.

Now I'm getting curious on how this is achieved. I mean, ping has been the bane of online play from countries without dedicated servers. Anything over 200ms in those games is a death sentence, and even 100 is stretching it a bit on some games. So if we have a game not heavily dependent on ping while being an action game...

Then again, they managed PSO1 over 56k...
