PC crashes and reboots since update yesterday

Ever since the update yesterday, the game will randomly cause my PC to lock up for 2-3 seconds and then reboot. No crash log is generated, no event viewer entries to indicate what caused the error. No other program on my PC does this, and the game ran fine until yesterday's update. So, fun times.

Any clues what's going on?

So, tried all the following:

Reinstalling the game on the same drive: still crashes randomly. Reinstalling the game on a secondary drive: still crashes randomly. MEMtest: my RAM is clean. GPU & RAM re-seating: it's all good. Checking power consumption: everything is A-OK. Heating issues: nope, everything is A-OK here too.

So, I dunno what it is. But ever since the update this week, the game will randomly crash without warning. No other game on my PC does this. No other program on my PC does this, period. And this happens even when PSO2 is the only thing I have running.

The game will run fine for a bit, and then my computer locks up for 3 seconds (during which the sound buzzes if my speakers are on), and then it reboots by itself. No crash dump/file, no event viewer entries pointing to the problem, no error messages.

Finally had a crash that didn't take down my whole PC after updating my nvidia drivers again.

Crashed again. Whole PC this time.

Only event is this:

0x800702E4: Cannot create the process for package 100B7A24.oxyna_1.0.7.0_x64__wyfsmff9ynw7j because an error was encountered while launching. [LaunchProcess]

Update: apparently 0x800702E4 is a permissions-related issue, in that software/user doesn't have permission to do something. So, this is probably related to all the permission issues the game causes.

But using the Tweaker didn't fix this.

Reinstalled on a new hard drive using the Tweaker exclusively. Game runs fine. Still crashes and takes down my entire system every once in a while. This time, no event logs, still no crash dumps, nothing.

And yet people are still willing to play this game with these unacceptable errors for over a month now.

THIS is why Microsoft doesn’t bother with fixing the game.

Aight, but that doesn't help me or the issue so, bye?

Has happened several more times today. Still no crash dump, event viewer entry... nothing to help figure out what's going on. The crashes just keep coming at complete random, and nothing else on the device, no other game or program, causes them.

Tried windowed mode. Still crashed. Tried disabling directx9ex features. Still crashed. Tried lowering FPS to 30. Still crashed.

One crash happened during a loading screen. Another while I left the game on overnight in the casino staring at the ground.

I've had another game entirely running for the last 8 hours now, one that's twice as demanding as PSO2 for GPU/CPU and RAM. No signs of crashing. So the issue really is PSO2, ever since the Challenge Mode patch last week.

I'm also having a very similar issue. The game causes my computer to completely crash whenever I get disconnected. Not sure if its the game or if its my internet, but I have been getting disconnected more often since the update. The only reason I know its a disconnected issue is because my bothers game gets disconnected whenever my computer crashes.

@XYZTHEEND Huh, that's interesting. So it could be a network problem? What does your crash look like? 2-3 seconds of buzzing, then a cold reboot with no event logs/crash dumps?

It may be related to MS UPDATE KB4560960 - This update from MS will cause The Tweaker and PSO2 running from the MS store app to crash. You can search for this installed Update in your list of Windows Updates. It is recommended that you Uninstall it.

That particular update can't be rolled back. The script from the Tweaker gives you a manual update package you can install to fix it.

That having been said, that particular update was installed on June 18 for me. The crashes didn't start until June 24, which is the day the Challenge Mode patch went live. So while the update could have something to do with it, the patch is what set it off.

@Dri4974 My crash is exactly like yours. Game locks up then buzzing and then reboot. After my crash my bother disconnects a second later. This makes me think that the crash is caused by the game disconnecting.
