It isn't even political correctness. It's people who want things removed they simply don't like. Last of us 2 is a great example of this. Devs stuck to their guns and made it the way they wanted it to. Currently the fastest and highest selling game of all time.

There isnt anything that helps TLOU2 by removing it at all, the game would need a complete makeover, also no refunds or even trade ins were allowed for the game.

We get a clearly US-centric event and rather than the Canadians saying "Oh this is wild, can't wait to see what they do for Canada Day" and taking to the forums to offer their suggestions, or Mexicans saying "Oh, y'know you missed a chance to put out a Cinco de Mayo themed event and it's not like the whole "battle against insurmountable odds" motif would be that difficult to translate into the game so I really hope you can come up with something in time for next year," what we get is "OMG! Imperialism! Slavery! Conquest! Oppression! Genocide! Japan confusing Independence Day with Christmas and filling the lobby with decorated evergreens is giving me PTSD! REMOVE IT ALL! NEVER SPEAK OF IT AGAIN! I AM SO ASHAMED OF YOU ALL!"

That's even more ignorant than thinking Canada Day is about chugging syrup and having poutine eating contests or that Cinco de Mayo is just some alcoholic's fabricated excuse to get blitzed. Which is to say it's pretty damn ignorant, and to demand that the event be not only cancelled for the short term but fully removed in the long term all because of one person's (or even a tiny group's) feelings are that it's "offensive" somehow is selfish, narcissistic, and the embodiment of everything that is wrong with Political Correctness.

I just wanted to say that personally, it felt so over the top and silly that I actually found it really fun. I'm still sad about everything going on right now, but it's nice to see something so silly to distract from it a bit.

I just hope we'll see holidays for other regions too.

I didn’t want to deep dive into this but the whole "Politics is everything" is just a performative leftwing talking point used to spout rhetoric.

What they seem to fail to understand is we as humans can view things in a multitude of different lenses, Politics is just one of those lens. Things are not political by nature or sheer will of force.

The idea of "everything is politics" or in this case "everything is entwined with politics" is a rejection of that and makes terms meaningless. Its a similar mental gymnastics that people in the Art community who love the smell of their own farts use to Justify a deeper Artistic meaning in a literal Blank white canvas…

Everything can be Politicized but that’s something YOU are doing.

Buddy of mine and I always joke about how meme-worthy Japanese interpretations of other cultures tend to be. Now, to be fair, the same can be said of pretty much any and every other culture trying to mimic another. Without true, lived experience (or at least a ton of research into those who have it) all anyone really has to work with is stereotypes and generalizations. Which leaves us with the choice of getting butthurt over it, or just laughing at how absurdly ridiculous it is.

Yeah, as stated before this stuff was in the game all they way back in 2012 and was made by the Japanese developers. They probably thought it would be a nice gesture for US players.

It seems pretty fitting for a 4th of July celebration. It's not really trying to make a political statement, it's just what Japanese devs thought would be fitting for a 4th of July event.

Does the intent matter? If I accidentally burn an egg the outcome is still a burnt egg; if I use real-world symbols in a video game they don't stop being real-world symbols.

There's nothing inherently wrong with it accidentally or intentionally having political images. If anything, that's part of what makes it funnier, for those of us who find it humorous.
