This game is an ABSOLUTE MESS

Installed the game a week and a half ago and was surprised I had no issues with that lengthy process.

Playing it for a week testing classes to see which I'd main.

Settled on Bouncer, deleted one of my old chars to make room for the bouncer main. Created him, logged off to sleep.

Wake up this morning to get in a quick hour or 2 before work and the game refuses to open culminating with an error about how pso2startup in the Mutable folder cannot be accessed by the game.

Why? Because somehow the permissions for the folders all related to PSO2 got messed up SOMEHOW.

The game can't run, I spent the next 3 hours googling, changing permissions, even scanning my computer for malware and nothing. Finally got the game to respond when I clicked Play and it tries to REINSTALL from scratch which took 12 hrs to complete last time after the 11gb download.

So fed up and frustrated I click "uninstall" and the contents of the folders I was dealing with disappeared but guess what?

The 50+ gigs of storage has not been restored and I can't find any files in the locations to even DELETE.

How does this travesty of a launcher for a 12yr old game even make it to market with the XBOX/MICROSOFT tag on it.

This is lazy BS, I was about to spend money on this game only to be met with this. Imagine if I had spent money last night and COULDN'T LOG IN TODAY?!

My computer is fully updated with this Windows 10 junk as well.

Did you check the ModifiableWindowApps folder? There also might be a BackupMutable folder in WindowApps.

@Grave-Knight Yes while browsing the forums I found out that files are also stored in Mutable and MutableBackup.

It is presently deleting 220Gigs! I cannot believe it. I am moving on from this game immediately and making sure no one I know plays this trash.

While the launcher itself does have issues, most of the blame lies with Microsoft. Windows apps are designed to be downloaded, installed, updated and managed exclusively by the Microsoft Store, which is why the permissions are set up that way. PSO2 doesn't play nice with it because it has a standalone launcher that tries to do the same. It's a pretty terrible system and bringing it to PC as an app wasn't a good idea.

Anyways, the files you've lost are probably in C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MutableBackups. WindowsApps is a hidden folder and unless you've ticked the option to view them it's easy to miss. The MS store tends to move them there after restarting or whenever it feels like it, and we're still waiting on Sega and Microsoft to fix it.

@Tesonael How was this allowed to happen though? I waited for the PC Beta wondering why they were so quiet about it compared to the console.

Now I know why, they knew this shit would be a mess and that they hadn't figured it out yet but wanted to make as much money as possible!

No idea. I suspect the bare minimum of testing was done at least, and it's entirely possible that the machines used in testing don't suffer from the same problem due to some sort of...I don't know, specific internal setup they have for developing and testing things.

As for why, as I understand it Microsoft is the primary reason the game was brought over, and they also host the servers on Microsoft Azure. That's why it was an Xbox exclusive, and then exclusive to the MS store on PC. They did say they're bringing it to "other PC platforms" though, but have not yet mentioned a date. I suggest waiting on that if you enjoyed what little of the game you were able to play.

It's certainly an extremely disappointing first impression of an otherwise great game.

You should give PSO2 Tweaker a try.

@Tesonael I just want to clean up my PC of this mess and move on at this point. Files are being deleted but the space still hasn't been reclaimed. So I still have some more figuring out to do.

@Grave-Knight I don't know man, this game burned me hard today.

The game will be releasing on Steam most likely this year, its unfortunate this is happening to a considerable amount of people and Microsoft knows this and doesn't want to lose more potential money. Try the PSO2Tweaker like many have said or just give the game a try when it comes to Steam store in a few months.

Hi! We apologize for the technical issue. Please know that we are working hard to fix all of these so everyone can install and play the game at peace. We humbly ask for more of your patience and understanding as we know how frustrating this can be. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience you guys😊

@CosmicDiva I've heard people using the Tweaker are facing issues at random too so i'll pass for now

I lost 5gb even after deleting mutablebackup? Any idea where I can delete this?

It's a bit more then just an inconvenience when you have to look up guides to try and scrub your PC of dead data due to your store deleting and moving files without our authorisation. Nevermind the less savvy people that can royally mess their PC by accident doing this. Windows better supply us with a tool to scrub our PCs clean of the dead data it caused once this shit is over, most people still have lost space after searching everywhere for stray files thanks to your untested release on a store that has no excuses whatsoever to exist in such a garbage nonfunctional state.
