Censoring in game ?

Honestly the people who never played JP will not even notice the censoring in the game. But one of the most questionable ones in my mind is the height limit. As someone who is small in real life. I like making my characters that way as well. But being limited in that regard when I can do it in other games that are rated T by ESRB is kind of strange. I would really like to know what the whole thought process from the NA devs was about in that decision.

I can admit, I also don't understand this. Not sure if it was fought upon, maybe just implemented so people didn't make their character way too small to where they didn't like it, but this can be argued obviously because you can edit your character even after finalizing it for a limited time after. There are different ways to make your character small that I saw people talking about, but I don't think those that want to be small should have to go through the process.

The ESRB is Rated M because of the combination of Blood, Suggestive Themes, and Simulated Gambling.

Normally the rating for this kind if game would be T, but I am pretty sure the "Simulated Gambling" bumps it up. Even though Gacha games are literal gambling, they don't get the classification because you aren't "wagering a bet".

And no, the game isn't gonna fail cause of a minimal amount of censorship, if it even has any at all.

The mature factor also stims from the open forum MMO style. Because there is no filtering of chats or arts in lobbies that alone is enough to earn the M rating based on ESRB standards.

Yeah, I am not sure the reasoning fully. Just looked up "Tales of Vesperia" and it is only rated T but has all of the same "reasons" listed as this game.

Black Desert is also only rated T.

Me and my s/o were planning to make ourselves in-game, and we're both pretty short. I'm 5'1 and she's around 4'9 to 4'10. We're both Filipinos so our heights are quite short compared to westerners (Google says the average height for a Filipino man is 5'4 so not too far off I guess! Haha) So I guess that plan isn't going to come to fruition, sadly.

Hoping they change their minds though... because I'm going to be praying to Lord Umbasa that we make it to the height cutoff! 😂

i seriously hate it when games decide to censor. why? because most of the people arent going to care. by 'censoring' the content, you by and large are leaving the content in the game, which means the people who are going to cry will probably do so anyway. you do however kick up a fair bit of complaint about the censorship especially when its done stupidly and/or worse yet takes time away from focusing on actual issues relevant to the game. dont know if that will be the case here, hopefully not but i've seen it in most cases where stuff gets censored so thats an automatic flag for me. even if not, its a waste of effort thats not likely to affect the overall number of players.

anyhow i tend to play rather short characters myself, so im mildly irritated that im literally not allowed to because of presumably loli content. in a game with a largely freeform pictochat chat, a text chat and a voice chat. any of the three could be used to do far worse things than a short person in bikini armor, which is generally about as bad as /that/ gets.

@CFR Symbol Art being used to post explicit content all over players screens. That is more then enough for the M rating alone. The Quna concert was more porn then concert in some blocks.

And that's bannable according to the GM. Anything pornographc, political, racist and hate of any kind is against the rules and was recommended to report them. Even take a screenshot with a phone would count as evidence.

Here is the quote, "GENERAL PROHIBITIONS

You agree not to do any of the following:

Post, upload, publish, submit or transmit any Content that: (i) infringes, misappropriates or violates a third party's patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, moral rights or other intellectual property rights, or rights of publicity or privacy; (ii) violates, or encourages any conduct that would violate, any applicable law or regulation or would give rise to civil liability; (iii) is fraudulent, false, misleading or deceptive; (iv) is defamatory, obscene, pornographic, vulgar or offensive; (v) promotes discrimination, bigotry, racism, hatred, harassment or harm against any individual or group; (vi) is violent or threatening or promotes violence or actions that are threatening to any person or entity; or (vii) promotes illegal or harmful activities or substances. Oh I know that. I plan to report anyone I see doing that in open hubs.

Problem solved!

Even though they're against the game's terms, and doing that stuff is bannable, online interactions of this kind aren't rated by the ESRB, so they wouldn't factor into their rating. The ESRB can only rate what's included with the game. They cannot account for what other players will do with what they're given. If that were the case, then all games that have chat, or customization similar to Symbol Art would be rated M.

Simulated gambling still falls under a T rating, because it's still not actual gambling.

This is why the current rating and stated reasons are very strange. It's missing a lot of stuff that would and should definitely apply to PSO2 (at least the PSO2 I'm familiar with). Stuff like Partial Nudity, Language, possibly Sexual Content, and the all important and often unused "Users Interact" which is supposed to be used for games where interactions with other users are present, where unfiltered and uncensored content is shareable.

All This, along with the game not showing up on the ESRB website leads me to believe that the game hasn't actually been rated by the ESRB yet. Either that, or they don't believe any of that stuff applies to the game they were shown. If that's the case, I feel like there's a lot of stuff the ESRB didn't see, or a lot of stuff has been censored/covered up, or removed outright.

That said, even if none of the outfits were censored, it would still be M rated.

As someone that just skips a game if its censored for any reason, I'm not very thrilled about them already being 14ish cm short of their "all the content" claim just as a quick example. (or should I say tall :P) It's completely asinine to censor the game if it truly does end up with a M rating as that would allow everything in just fine. Who's eyes are trying to protect? The kids that shouldn't be playing the game because its rated M anyways or my adult eyes? If it's mine, newsflash, I'm old enough to make my own decisions on the content I consume. Thanks. I have nothing but respect for companies like NIS America announcing ahead of time any of the changes they make because it shows they respect the consumers time/money/values. 8 pages in and not one response from a CM on the subject. Disappointing to say the least. Also, I agree with post above, not having at least "partial nudity" in the ESRB rating seems crazy to me given the outfits that exist. Its either not truly rated yet or it's a sign of the dark days to come. Time will tell!

@AnonMarc yeah .. i had the concert ruined from constant filth being spammed. Missed extended beta from my account being locked, 100% sure from having "weeb' in one of my auto messages. Waiting to hear back .

If they censor the game it will fail .. this is the sad truth and my thoughts are if they a censoring something silly like height then what else are they going to censor?

So much so phil Spencer saying we will be getting ALL the content..

I too also want to enjoy a game fully uncensored after all it was made to be enjoyed this way in the first place. I want to make My loli hero. Dang it.

I don't quite understand why would they increase the minimum character size on character creation/customization. In JP I can go as low as 142 or 143 but on NA I could now go below 153. It will be annoying change from a playstyle point of view (specially for veterans), hit/hurtboxes and the reach of some PAs are tied to character's height and this can make a world of difference to some, specially for those who have affinity for TA rankings.

I'm not even sure if the NA devs are even aware of the hitboxes or how they work in the game. They are mainly just porting, translating, and running the servers. The TA times or SRs of other content will fall greatly behind JP server. So if you are coming over to be competitive in either of those I recommend staying on JP unless they do change the height back.
