Regarding the character height restrictions

@Nersius Oh crap... I completely missed that screenshot the first time I read it. Just looking at it logically and from how bent out of shape he was I figured it was either his kink or he was a dwarf. That's some straight loli crap, though.

Be careful like I say. I said similar sentiments but got an aggressive warning from a GM. Just giving you advice.

" intention to disrupt, insult, or invalidate the user's opinion"

@SoppierHades8 I know, I appreciate the heads up. They can ban me if they want.. I don't really intend to play the game anyways.

@Novaline said in Regarding the character height restrictions:

You don't need characters that short.

Lalafells were based on Tarutaru from FFXI, which was made over more than a decade ago. Also, they resemble more of gnome-like humanoids rather than children, as the males of these races have facial hair. Even in their voices, you can tell that they are NOT children. Your argument there is lacking. In the FF14 modding community, it's looked down upon to make NSFW mods for Lalas. You ask for a NSFW mod for Lala and you're practically asking to be banned from any website/Discord/etc for mods there.

The ESRB rating makes sense, I think you're just upset you can't make a child-sized character anymore. 5' 0" is already short enough. This thread is going to just be like the other threads where OP can't accept that the height restriction won't change, so they call the game "unplayable".

It's also funny because you actually CAN make a child character still. 5'0'' is the average height of a 12 year old male in the U.S. Some adults obviously stop growing when they reach this height, but technically anyone wanting a kid character can already make a kid character.

I think A LOT of people already are playing young characters because I see a lot of people who scaled down their character's height by quite a bit, while also selecting the more youtfhul facial appearance.

FFXIV is also not the greatest example concerning lalafells, because they are not human/human-like, and there are examples of actual children in the game (Alphinaud, Alisaie, Khloe, and a handful of others), yet the players can not come close to making a character like them (and Alphinaud/Alisaie are 16/17, which in XIV makes them legal).

The west DOES have a hangup and phobia about child characters that really is kind of sad, but the character height change in the western version is of little concern to me when compared to the other problems the western version has. (Missing content with no roadmap for when anything will be released, Star Gem currency being morphed into an expensive premium currency, and so on).

Not saying I agree with changes that were made, but it also does kind of make sense. Western culture has a serious paranoia when it comes to sexual content, which is probably why a lot of people just think "eww pedo alert" whenever someone brings stuff like this up.

These are the sort of posts that confirm my theory that there's way too many people here who only come to say doom and gloom.

Height. Complaining.....about the height.

@Subject-Astra

It's not even doom and gloom.

I get that some people want to make short characters for shits and giggles, but then you have the fucked up idiots that actually make child-like characters and dress them up in skimp outfits. Blame them for the reason why Eastern-based MMOs have to censor shit relating to children.

@Ciel

Which is also funny because why care if you can't make your character shorter than 5' 0" if you can still make a kid. No, the "paranoia" is justified if you have seen some of the shit people have made with those child characters. Those other problems you have mentioned is what people ARE talking about now. This conversation got revived for some reason, because OP expected a different answer or w/e.

"It's just pixels" or "It's just fantasy" is a real flimsy argument a lot of people in this thread have made just because they can't make a character that's 4' 5" anymore. Also "muh hitboxes" doesn't work for this game either. Smaller characters do not have an advantage like that in this game, in fact, hitboxes are spherical, since they're more forgiving than actual hitboxes would be.

@Wiibu said in Regarding the character height restrictions:

@Zipzo We'll never know unless we try. I just think the ESRB reasoning is a lie. There is no way that FFXIV can get away with Lalafell in a T rated game and PSO2 can't get away with the minimum height that the JP version has. The minimum height in jp is around 4'7" while the minimum height for Lalafells is 2'10.2". that is a difference of 1 foot 9 inches.

The real reason it was given the M rating is due to the lootboxes and the casino part of the game. If this part was removed it will be given a T rating instead of the M.

https://www.esrb.org/ratings-guide/

@Novaline u know not everyone makes short characters to put them in skimpy sucu outfits u point out flimsy and weak arguments but really yours is no better maybe people just want to make a badass looking loli and/or shota character i just want to point that out.

There's plenty of short child like characters running around NA. I see the little buggers everyday. I made a tiny CAST myself.

This thread is pointless and ridiculous.

@AlexOak the lootboxes and Casino have nothing to do with the rating, for the current rating is T for Teen.

The mature rating is related to content that was introduced in either late Episode 5 or early Episode 6. The JP version was supposed to upgrade to Cero D, the JP equivalent of M, on April 15th. It got postponed until May 15th. We will likely see our rating increase to M again either on the 27th or in the not-so-distant future.

@DarkFalz_Joker Well, you tried at least 🤷

No point in arguing for or against reverting this change as people are only going to project their own points so they can counter comfortably on both sides, who gives a care about the restriction, just create the character within the parameters allowed and wreck shit!

@AzureCrownMalfest

How about reading what I said about how "not everyone makes those kinds of characters, some people make short characters for shits and giggles" before you try to say my argument is flimsy.

Tell that to the people who just can't take "they won't change their stance on this" as an answer. This whole thread was doomed to the same toxicity because people cannot accept that the height restrictions aren't going to change here, and majority of people have moved on. This is just nonsense from the vocal minority that thinks not being able to be a couple inches shorter is infringing on their rights or something, lol...

Exactly, this isn't going to stop people from making lolis and shotas or short characters in general. You really don't need to make your character 4ft when you still have enough creative liberty to work around the restriction.

@Nersius Yeah, I linked the weird screenshot to give the worst example I could think of from FFXIV to show that another game is doing it and keeping a T rating. That isn't my character.

@AceSpider It was just the most extreme example I could think of tbh. I see now that it was a bad idea to include the screenshot.
