Was Hyped for the NA release..but now

Seriously? been hearing this game nickels and dimes you harder then an EA game, like..I need to buy Xbox game pass and an in Game sub to end up not completely butt shagged by horrible microtransactions and pay to win/convenience, please tell me its not as awful as I am, hearing?

I am not sure who you are hearing this from but there is no pay to win in this game. The sub is optional and they are people who choose not to use it. It is not required for someone to enjoy the game. Almost all microtransactions in this game are cosmetics. Out of all the Asian MMOs out there this is probably the least pay to win.

I played this game when it was 3 % translated into English 7 years ago...I only know English...I never spent 1$, it was one of the greatest gaming experiences of my life, my brother and dad joined in too, and my dad is 100% the type that would never play a game in japanese...Anyways, all that being said, without any scratchers or microtransactions for boosters or anything from any of us, we all had such a good time playing this game, and are ridiculously excited to finally be playing it on PC in english soon. You don't need to pay to win, you don't need to win... You just need to play, with friends possibly. The combat system is the main selling point for me, you can't get enough of it. But there are so many other reasons why we loved this game, even tho we didn't understand 90% of the text. 11/10 game for me, but I might be biased with over 10,000 hours on the first PSO with just local multiplayer lol. It's the gameplay, the shops, it's just super dope with friends/fam.

The game is perfectly playable without having to spend a dime in game.

Game Pass is not needed, you only a normal Gold subscription if you are playing on XBox; Game Pass just gives you some inconsequential consumables each month.

Premium (the equivalent of a subscription) is only a matter of convenience, just giving you some extra perks that you can find listed here: https://pso2.com/manual/fundamentals/ac

The majority of the microtransactions for this game are just tied to cosmetic items, many of which can be obtained by buying them from other players for in-game currency, and others being obtained using freemium currency that can be earned in game.

You can buy additional inventory and storage space, but again, that is just for convenience, and if you manage your storage properly, you can get by just fine with the default free storage.

alright, Ill post a few things I was told, hopefully someone can clarify.

-Trading and the marketplace is behind a paywall in PSO2 -First premium currency is 1000 per dollar. Second is 100 per 2 dollars I think? Anyway almost all costumes are locked behind 1) loot boxes or 2) 2nd premium currency

-The game has a battle pass, 2 peemium currencies and a lot of stuff is locked behind a paywall This is what I learned from playing the XBOX version of the game As well all items are only tied to characters on ships with no measure of ship transfer atm

-To edit your character further cost premium currency other than costumes and accessories, if you get a non premium salon pass. It's a TIMED useable item. Meaning after the time limit it doesn't matter what you did So better do some updates quick!wall. One time use

-Cosmetic costume parts count as inventory space You get a limited space. Also there is premium space if your sub runs out you're locked out until you pay Oh wait I forgot. There is another currency, casino currency

-you need to buy xbox ultimate and an in game sub to remove most restrictions.

honestly this sounds horrible to me, so hopefully someone can clarify some of this to me.

@NovaStarOne almost all the costumes and cosmetics can be purchased on the player marketplace due to the items from the scratches being tradeable.

12 AC scratches cost around $20, this is basically for making meseta by selling the items to other players through the marketplace, or chasing the parts you want yourself. Making meseta is incredibly easy without paying.

Only the outerwear/costumes/weapon camos take up space. Most of the desirable cosmetics are tickets you consume to unlock the item, thus not taking up space.

They give out salon tickets like candy. They are timed, yes, but you can customize your character and "save it" so that you can complete it later. That means the time limit shouldn't present an issue.

Even paid games have inventory management issues. Oblivion, Skyrim, Witcher 3, Destiny, World of Warcraft etc. I can't think of a single game where inventory is unlimited.

The battle pass can be purchased with a premium currency that you can earn without spending a dime. In fact, the rewards return that premium currency over the rewards. And the pass is much easier to finish the rewards than any other season pass game I have played.

@John-Paul-RAGE

that helps a lot, would you say subbing would remove a lot of Freemium feel restrictions kinda like what Swtor does? or other mmos that offer a sub track? cuz if thats the case, id be a lot less worried about restrictions too.

Skyrim has weight issues but that can be bypassed.

@NovaStarOne Still will have micro-tranactions look at FFXIV on optional items.

@NovaStarOne it gives a lot more storage space for sure. It removes the hassle of needing to get a shop pass to be able to sell items on the player market. As mentioned above it also removes the need for the salon passes and provides some passive experience boosts.

I think there is a post for the premium benefits, I will link it back in this post when I find it.

It basically comes down to making things more convenient/enables me to be lazy with my item management lol.

sounds like the person who was in my discord might have been over explaining things, or making it sound worse then it was, cuz this sounds no different to me from a free vs subbed game

Majority of the players in the game don't have premium.

Whoever's been telling you those things has been misrepresenting the game horrible, and I say this as someone who's been very critical of the NA monetization.

You don't need the xbox gamepass as far as we know, the gamepass rewards offer nothing of particular value (a few minor boosters which offer no advantage given how many of those same boosters you earn for regular gameplay) nor do you need premium as it doesn't give you any real objective advantages, but instead some small conveniences; the biggest of which (shop passes, mostly) can be obtained through other means.

Where the game's issues stand is the way they've been handling the cosmetics with shady "sales" and artificially limiting a resource that was plentiful in JP.

I wouldn't say premium doesn't give you any real objective advantages. 50% faster xp gain is well...50% more xp, so less grinding. Shop access for selling items at any time beats needing to spam AQs for boosters to trade to excubes to trade to fun tickets for the chance to get a 3 day shop pass. If you are FTP, I feel sorry for anyone that has to waste time doing this as it will be a lot of time wasted better spent doing other things.

You will also waste/lose time managing your inventory(stopping mid quest to bank stuff constantly because you can only carry 50 items without buying extra inv space), and having to to juggle items you want to eventually sell between multiple characters' bank space but can't sell cause you don't have a shop pass at the moment. I feel sorry for people that have to do this as well.

If you do game with friends, not having premium means no trading. So if you are trying to farm something and a friend gets it as a drop, tough luck, they couldn't give it to you even if they wanted to, they could sell it cheap on the AH, but then you risk someone else grabbing it before you do.

Character inventory slots is an arguably crucial purchase, probably the most important one any player will/would make. Premium, while not a necessity, is probably the second most useful way to spend money on the game. Someone who has the ability to pick up 130 items without stopping, then immediately be able to post said items on the AH, is going to earn meseta far faster than someone who can only pick up 20 or so items and can only vendor them for pennies or sit on them until they get a shop pass. The former player will progress(buy better gear quicker, enhance gear quicker, get better augments) much faster thus earning more meseta/xp at an even faster rate. This also gives them more buying power on the AH to secure cosmetics they want as those release as well. The latter player will struggle much more and their progress will be slowed considerably and any large purchases on gear, augments, enhancing, or cosmetics will always come at the cost of the others.

Eh.. my hype has been cooled for a while upon hearing the changes from friends who play JP and NA. I'm not particular fond of their monetization changes in NA when compared to JP among other things.

Azelyra went through the issues in a part of his live stream earlier. I'll still play, but meh. Hopefully they'll listen to feedback folks have been dropping.

Having Premium gives the following things...

Three Hundred(300) more Storage spaces.

Access to your own personal Shop to put items up for sale to other players.

Access to larger My Rooms that have 150 item space limit, the default room has 5 space limit.

Easier access to various blocks when they are busy, by way of the Premium space on each block.

The ability to trade in 10★ Units, 10★ Weapons, and 11★ Weapons, for a Pass of that same type. Passes can be used without Premium, but can only be obtained with Premium.

The ability to trade items with other players. I am not certain, but I believe they also need Premium in some cases.

Extra FUN from Good Job messages and any multiplayer interaction that gave FUN.

40 slots for Client Orders instead of the usual 20.

Two log-in stamps a day.

Three more crafting slots to work with.

Access to Team Storage (your team must have purchased it. You don't need premium to purchase, but any member that wishes to use it MUST have it to withdraw/deposit)

Additional FUN from using non-NPC friend partners.

Access to premium drinks that give a 15%(?) rare drop boost that has 100% chance of occuring, as well as give the maximum boost for that type of drink.

You can save up to 40 symbol arts.

If you use an AC makeover pass, you have a full hour to keep making changes even after leaving the salon.

All free to play games have these types of perks but only few games can still be played and enjoyed without them. Tera Online has great sub perks but isn't needed either to enjoy the game. Things just take a little longer to achieve is all.

The whole Xbox GamePass thing needs to stop being brought up. It's a perk of the GamePass and not a Perk of PSO2. People get the GamePass on Xbox/PC because of the games 1st. Getting them for just some throw-in items of next to no value is truly wasting money then.
