Techter Discussion

Yeah the official translation is a mix of what Techtnically correct an what the PSU dub translated the name as.

In japanese the name is called テクター, spoken Tekutaa. The technically correct translation would be Techtor since its a play on words with "Tech" and Protector (プロテクター Purotekutaa). This play on words gets lost in the PSU translation and makes it sound like if we were some Tech specialists. Adding that extra T brings it somewhat back without changing too much from the PSU term.

I think the "pro" half of protector got used over on psu's protranser class, but they never really used it on anything else so I guess it got overlooked

So I'm here to get some insight from vet Techters of PSO2.

I come from a background in playing Acrotecher in PSU, Astrologian in FFXIV, and mainly just support classes in general. I've been conflicted lately whether to continue my TeHu when OBT starts or try something else.

I want to stay with the support aspect, meaning the support-y classes I am looking at are either Techter, going Bouncer for smaller-scale support, or Ranger for Weak Bullet.

Tecther was my obvious choice initially due to my history of Acrotecher and having support buffs as my biggest focus. But while it's fun now, I'm worried if just wand smacking and support buffs will all it'll be for long-term and I will burn out of boredom. So if I main Techter, I was thinking of another subclass to it that adds another element of gameplay aside form support and wand smacking. Maybe Fi for tech usage or Su for pets. But I want more to it.

Otherwise, I was looking at Bouncer and Ranger because they also have support aspects and, as far as their offensive aspects are concerned, are very fun and diverse with Bouncer just being Bouncer and Ranger with their diverse range of guns.

Sorry for the long post but does anyone have any insight on this or what mainly a support-first player like myself could do to make sure I enjoy a job for the long term by means of having multiple things to do during normal gameplay?

Would you like a full support build that is Tech and Ranger?

@Sylus So, One thing out of the way. Te/Bo can be fun but it requires you to invest into something called "Weapon Extending" which is part of this game's Crafting System. Bouncer has a Crafting mastery skill which is very useful in general since it boosts Units with Timed Abilities as well (a whole other crafting system i wont explain here). This mastery basically boosts Crafted Gear stats by 10% and this makes Crafted gear almost as good as the current endgame weapons (on units its just free bulkiness). However the weapon crafting system also can add Class equip-ability if you are lucky. This way you can equip Endgame-like Soaring Blades and Jet Boots on a Te (which usually is a feature that much weaker weapons have). This is not cheap unfortunately and it is currently unknown if there is gonna be a way to obtain "Add class equip-ability" items in PSO2 NA, which would reduce the luck element.

Te/Fi would be a temporary solution as there is very little point in playing that combo when Te/Ph exists. Phantom is a Scion class that you unlock once 2 Jobs reached level 75 so for now you can stick to Te/Hu and switch to Te/Ph once you unlock Phantom. Phantom has a Skill that cuts down Charge time of Techs in half (while also reducing Power) so Tech gameplay feels very fast paced and fun and in many instances even boosts Tech DPS slightly. You also get abilities that boost your power & Crit rate depending on how much PP you have so a crit build will also become possible.

Te/Ra is very weak in uncoordinated Pugs and i wouldn't recommend to main it. In coordinated fights where all 12 MPA players are on the same page Te/Ra performs incredibly well. I wouldn't recommend it as your first choice but it is the only "Full support" type build. The supportive abilities on Bouncer can be used on Te/Ra as well through the use of Right Side Skill Rings.

@Cathy Thank you very much. I was considering TePh but that would require some grind to get to end-game and I was hopefully looking for something to invest starting now lol.

But you said you can wear Jet Boots or Soaring Blades on Te with that class-equip ability? Does that make it so DPS using said weapons will be lower when using as a Te vs the main class for the weapons meant for, in this case Bouncer?

@Sylus Yes even if you could replicate the exact same multipliers as Bo/Hu or Bo/Ph you will be lacking 10% power since there are titles that buff your Damage by 10% if you are using mainclass weapons. And since the only damage multipliers Te has as a mainclass are Shifta and Element Weak Hit, you'll be missing even more damage multipliers compared to a mainclass bouncer with a stronger subclass.

This should not detract from the fun of having Access to Wands, Soaring Blades and Jet Boots. If you wanna see some endgame Te/Bo gameplay here is a youtube channel of a Japanese player maining that class combo and doing really well with it: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNoag1cq68tQKhfy6slfEjA/videos Be careful tho as some of these fights he makes videos on are story spoilers.

@Cathy Thank you so much for the info!

So, for any new or older player, I have had a Techter guide made for awhile now. I'll link it here so that others can possibly get a glimpse at what the class is like.

I am planning on making some NA specific trees, but those are TBD until we see what the game will be like on launch.

@Lynn-F if you don't mind I would love to help you expand the guide with extremely detailed explanations on how Certain skills work and why you should/shouldn't use them.

@Cathy Extra help would be nice! I should have already explained on which skills to take/skip in my guide, however feel free to just add me on Discord! I was also thinking of starting up a Discord for fellow Techters and possibly Forces.

This is just what I have been looking for!! I've been messing around on the JP servers since the NA CBT with the hopes I could isolate which class I wanted to main. I've gravitated towards TE/HU. Thanks!

I'm def leaning heavily towards TE/HU & TE/PH when I'm able to unlock it. For those who are well versed on the class how was playing through the solo content? I hear that some fights are difficult if DPS is not high enough and such.

Contrary to popular belief Te can clear Solo content as effectively as other classes. It just takes a lot of practice and skill.

@RENOSENCE @Cathy What Cathy said is 100% true, it just takes a bit more effort, but once you get comfortable with Techter, it's not at all difficult!
