NSFW Content on symbol art "solution?" Discussion

Is there any way we can avoid NSFW stuff on symbol arts? I was showing the game to a friend on discord and sum stuff popped up, and turning it off is an option but my friend instantly quit the call and is probably going to avoid the game. From a new player's perspective I want more people to know how amazing this game is but having symbol art as on by default is risky in my opinion*, I have one possible solution for that, disabling symbol arts by default and popping a message suggesting the player turn it on or off explaining the risks since the game is 18+, because I would have to give up this fun part of the game if other people could see me playing the game at home(roommate, family, etc), a message telling me (THIS COULD CONTAIN NSFW OR GORE CONTENT BE AWARE) is another thing since the game is 18+ and this could be a turn off for possible players in NGS too. I like posting memes and stuff but I don't like looking at cartoon kids shoving stuff up sum other stuff.

This is my opinion and a suggestion, we can talk about other options for SEGA so people who want that part of the game can have it and I can keep my distance :).

Have a good one, Potato.

EDIT: To enforce my case every time someone posts some nsfw stuff and I HAVE to block it I'll update and bump the thread hope that doesn't violate guidelines

context was I used a symbol art to hint at asking for a party invite during 600% expedition for exp 🙂 me and the degenerates are the only ones on the mission. I should pull a sega and ask them to block the images LMAO

explaining the risks since the game is 18+

The GMs don't allow NSFW Symbol Arts. You can report each player that uses them. (You need to know the time and date as well as the character name/player ID.)

In said report include the inappropriate Symbol Art's ID, that'll help it from being used further.

I'm talking about a preventive measures for the future, but thank you for the information! 🙂 I mean its normal for new releases to get more players, avoiding problems would be great for PR. Since the game's public are usually anime fans that like hard rpgs and outfits, and animes in general are getting more popular you can see where I'm going. The game is too great to be overshadowed by stuff that shouldn't even be there to begin with, If I wanted to see insertcharactername's insertbodypart being inserted by stuff a game would be the last place to look. Is what I think. If you like it good for you but the fact that the solution is post problem and that does not help at all, I'll probably have to quit the game since I like to play with friends and they are not degenerates.

For situations like this I always kinda hoped for a "See SA only from Friends/Alliance" option as I sometimes stream and I don't like turning it entirely off.

@Vashzaron Same thing, the game is shooting itself on the leg just to bandage it. I like to see memes and jokes, I'm here to have fun and not to block people. Its a social game I'm here to make friends and have my time mean something.

You can block individual SAs, it just has to pop up once and you block it from your SA history, and it won't matter who has that SA it will just come up blank for you.

That's gonna be playing whack-a-mole. If Sega was smart, they'd make tags for SAs and one of them would be NSFW that people could self-flag or report and have an option in the SA settings to block those.

But, that's none of my business.

@Drayco84 True, my only hope and intent with this post is that they fix it somehow for NGS, plus I didn`t actually see those during beta so there's that too. We can hope! 🙂

There's no need to bump. This forum moves very slowly. Also, mind you that NGS is still in beta and we have people more interested in playing the game rather than being artful at this time. I understand being hopeful, but if it's connected to the internet, there WILL be porn on it.

@Drayco84 Very true. Even if say there were no symbol arts, people would be making nsfw chat emojis with things like the number eight, the equals signs, and the letter (D). That's just one example.

@PotatoSolo1 As another player stated, NSFW symbol arts arent allowed. That said, whenever one gets removed, three more pop up, and banning players that support the game, because they like said art, isn't the solution either. One of the other posts here mentions an auto flagging system that blocks that type of art for people who don't want to see it, as a better option. That option folds right into another topic, several in fact on these forums that revolve around censorship, all of which are locked due to heated arguments. The only thing anyone agreed on, that would have been fair, was a toggle system that would allow such a system as that flagging for certain symbol arts to be on by default, which would also be good for streamers, live streaming the game on say Twitch, and anyone that doesn't want to see certain mature content, to be able to turn aspects of said system on or off based on personal choice.

Such a system would allow players on the opposite end of that fence to play how they want, mature content and all, provided that it's permitted by the ToS, and the GM's at large. SA's would probably still need to be moderated, but not as much, and the focus could then be moved off of adult symbol arts, hypothetically, and focus and resources could be shifted to people causing real problems in game, like threatening other players, harassment, and those bots that are to this day still block hopping trying to RMT meseta. At any rate, that's not something easily done, and likely won't happen for some time, given NGS's launch schedule, and SEGA's current timeline and plans. To this day I think it's a good idea, but I'm not even sure such an idea has even reached SEGA's ear.

Unless the stamps are supposed to replace symbol arts in NGS, the NSFW stuff needs to be moderated a bit more differently.

There needs to be a new setting turned on by default that hides NFSW arts, and a feature to tag an art as NSFW. Since a symbol art has a specific ID linked to it, just one person tagging it as NSFW would hide it across all players.

I just want to ask one thing here... WHY aren't NSFW Symbol Arts allowed in my M-Rated MMO? It's pretty stupid to disallow something like that on an M-Rated or even ban players from making them when the age rating is so high to begin with. (But then, maybe they shouldn't be adding pointless virtual casinos in a Phantasy Star game. You all know I'm right, the casino was easily the emptiest place in the game. The only game that was really interesting was Mesetan Shooter, and needed multiple people to get the most of it.) In fact, the censored/cut JP scenes got kinda spicy as well, due to the fact that they were bath scenes. (But really, they were no worse than most anime with the same sub-plot.)

Furthermore, it'd be incredibly dumb to ban players because they made NSFW symbol arts, and some of them were really good/funny. The best option would be a tagging system where SAs can be marked as SFW or NSFW, with SFW set as default and the option to flag NSFW SAs as such to cut down on trolling attempts. As previously said, streamers and youtubers would LOVE this kind of feature, and younger players get protected from the reason why EVERYBODY exists. Meanwhile, the crasser/thirstier people get their raunchier content because, again, it's on the internet and features user-made content. Porn WILL appear, regardless of Sega's best efforts. (See those damn RMT spammers that never shut up and constantly change the text JUST ENOUGH to avoid the automated systems for proof.) Overall, their best bet is to have a system that lets the decent players moderate things since the devs will be focusing most of their effort on the game itself and playing whack-a-mole is very time-consuming.
