Instanced dungeons?

Will this game have instanced dungeons? Yeah, I already know about cocoons and towers... I mean a true dungeon, like in the original PSO2. I just found this pic on reddit which shows a new icon on the map, it seems to be another type of instanced content... maybe a dungeon? How many chances are there for instanced dungeons to be in the game? alt text

What quest in PSO2 are you referring to? I've never encountered anything in PSO2 that I would consider to be a dungeon.

Outside of Cocoons, Towers and UQs, no other instanced content has been announced for NGS. I was going to link another thread that was discussing this same topic but I can't find it anymore.

Group ultimate quests could be considered a dungeon. Specially the one with Shiva at the end of it.

Many of the Arks Quests and Time Attack Quests could be considered dungeons.

I'm sure they'll have instanced dungeons, classically speaking PSO is a dungeon crawler and they can make more nuanced content having 4 man instances.

Ah right. I'd forgotten about Lilipa TA until you mentioned it. With all it's switches and backtracking I'd agree that qualifies as a dungeon.

The main thing that "makes" a dungeon for me is the exploration and problem solving aspects of exploring a maze like area and defeating various monsters and obstacles that prevent you from directly sprinting to the goal.

Lol everything except the lobby and casino is an istanced dungeon on PSO2, c'mon guys please! Cocoons and towers are indeed a dungeon too, but they are very simple, I mean VERY simple, all of them with the same blue VR space-like look, too shorts, with no loot inside and at least for now no mechanics and/or little puzzles to solve or switches to unlock new areas with, which were all things that were in Pso1 and Pso2 and in the other entries of the serie too. A jungle, a volcanic cave, a procedural generated maze which isn't just a blue room with one or two enemies. Something like that... I thought it was pretty obvious.

They need to remember low man content is a thing that some people want including myself. In an ideal world, all types of content have reasons to run them, but this is super hard to balance. Currently we don't have any 4 man or lower content that's worth running repeatedly outside of perhaps Tower for speedrunning to show off or somethjing.

Even if this is like, just some sort of end game thing to push our character (like a tower to reach the highest floor, perhaps) that would be awesome. But who knows, I'm just posting wishful thinking.

Instancing sucks. Make NGS a classic MMO.

Nah man, instancing is necessary, open world only gonna become very boring very quickly. Pso has always been a dungeon crawler, it's ok to change and evolve but why open world only when you can have some instanced content to repeat and enjoy in smaller groups? "Classic" mmos always had instanced content/dungeons by the way, lol just look at Wow, ff14, blade and souls... etc...etc. Only open world ones died in months or worse. Moreover NGS already have instanced combat areas, cocoons and UQs, so... are you implying NGS will suck? Cause I tell you, it already has instances all over the place, that was not the point of this topic.

My last wish for ngs is to have a good dungeon, with beautiful design and challenging mechanics for action combat with an average of 30min to complete, one of my favorite thing of pso2 are for example...battles like "face of the abyss" uq with the awesome soundtrack in the background ,If something like that could be improved even more in ngs, that would be great for me!

So you're completely fine with having to camp every single boss you want to kill?

Because that's what having no instanced areas gets you.

@Racso Let's hope the new type of dungeon that was teased in the newest Pusonicomi special episode is a bigger and more unique dungeon than towers.

The minimap shown in that episode has a new icon in the world map that didn't exist in the beta, it's the same color as the other instanced dungeons (cocoons and towers), but it's a different icon. It's located in the wetlands, a large building that was inactive in the beta (it didn't even have an icon in the beta, it looked like just decoration, but now we can see that it may have been an inactive dungeon).

I wonder if instanced dungeons will have randomized or set layouts? Though I would like some set and some random so there could be some with more puzzles and some with more re-playability since it won't just be the same run over and over.

@Weirdo Personally I don't like random layouts, they end up feeling the same, feeling generic, even among different dungeons.
