Will there be incentives to play normal PSO2 after NGS is released?

@Zeke Says the one that started the speculation that they're gonna remove SG from those shops. 😕

But really, they've only been stopping or changing the services that have to be updated manually, like the mission pass, changing the FUN scratch to a permanent one on JP, adding permanent AC scratches on JP (once NGS releases, most likely there will be no more new AC scratches for the base PSO2), there haven't been any signs at all of permanent content being removed.

@Zeke They also have no reason to go out of their way to remove them.

For SG they might. If New Genesis is going to add new SG sources and they don't want to cause inflation of SG which would make people less willing to buy it directly, they'd need to reduce its sources from non-NGS to balance it out.

@Miraglyth SG is carried over and we're in the middle of campaigns that are rewarding huge amounts of SG, I don't think the small amount of SG from the stores mentioned really matters in the long run.

EDIT: Hmm, went to check campaign, other than the level 100 campaigns, it's not as much SG as I thought, but I still don't think they'll touch the permanent SG gaining methods from the current PSO2.

To engage with the OP topic though:

I don't think PSO2 really needs any incentives to actually play it though, because it is a game in its own right and it will be fun to play even with NGS out. Previous games don't just suddenly lose all their value due to a sequel coming out.

However, SEGA should really "unlock" PSO2 so to speak when NGS comes out. By this, I mean that all content should be playable and everything be farmable realistically without having to worry about time slots (Urgents) or heavy player numbers (how do you get 12 players for raid bosses when everyone is on NGS?). Having 4P content is fine, but even now 12P content is difficult to fill up.

There's also things like Grand Capsules, Mark Capsules, Mission Badge related stuff, Titles/Achievements, etc that should all be readily accessible to get once NGS come out -- lord knows I'm not getting the rematch Yamato titles any time soon since you... can't do them at all unless it's on the schedule lol, but something should be done about that.

Uncapping timegated stuff will also go a long way, or making their limits higher. Augment Passes, Mission Badges (although this is going), things like Crystals and Grania should all be uncapped on NGS release so it's just a grind, not a timegated grind, and you can just simply work on making perfect gear or niche gear or whatever you're interested in in your own time.

As it stands now though, PSO2 Global feels somewhat gimped and impossible to do things on, and NGS being in 2 months really knocks the motivation down, because what if all this timegated stuff ends up staying on NGS release? It will just feel really bad trying to play PSO2 to do whatever you like when nobody is playing it and you're still just sitting around waiting for daily/weekly resets or urgents.

Sega originally had plans for pso2 to last for 10 year life cycle. The ability to move your stuff over is just a coping mechanism so people don't feel like their entire time was wasted.

SG is carried over

Yeah I'm aware, but if we can get like 200 SG/week on average between login stamps, rankings, casino, battle, challenge and so on, and NGS adds 200 SG/week on top of that, that's fewer people who'll by it at 5 bucks per 100. Those campaigns, like all story titles, are one-time and not something they need to consider for long-term devaluation of it as a semi-paid resource.

Yeah I'm definitely on board with this mentality and I have a feeling it will go that way a little more over time for as long as PSO2 is supported.

I wonder if after awhile they might use some of the new NGS assets to drop into some mismash PSO2 events or such?
