If we're talking about "frozen" then this is most likely about getting hit by Sodams ice spikes right before his "get behind the pillars" attack during the second phase of the fight. The issue here is that "the Atlas potential saving you" is also just a gamble as the "OHKO attack" applies another round of 15-20 seconds of freeze onto the player so unless you get saved by another player (which I wouldn't count on) or you have another will to burn through it's pretty much GG right there. So yes, the OP is absolutely right about some mechanics being overly punishing. There are also other examples of the game being overly / needlessly punishing but luckily they're rather rare.
